my twee girlfriend

me and my twee girlfriend
we're gonna move out to one of the gulf islands
and live in an old farmhouse
and have a backyard that is basically just a farmer's field with a little grassy part
and there's an apple tree

some nights when it's real warm we'll sit on the back porch
and watch fireflies
and sip mint juleps
and talk about going for a bike ride tomorrow into town to go to the market
and we'll sing songs to each other
(i'll play piano
and she'll play on her double bass
or cello
depending on how she feels)

then on some days when it's just too hot to work
(we both work at home)
we'll go down to the ocean
and collect shells
and stuff to make necklaces
and then watch the sun go down

then we'll go home
and cuddle under a quilt
(she made it but i helped pick the fabric)
on our swinging garden bench

when we go into the market she'll wear one of her cute summer dresses
and i'll wear a shirt with the sleeves rolled up
and some light pants
and we'll argue about what kind of apples to buy
and then we'll get steamed
and she'll storm off

but when we meet again she bought me ice cream
and i bought her a little knitted figure she thinks is real cute
and we walk the twenty minutes home with our groceries in canvas bags
and we see a farmer's field full of sunflowers
and we run into it and do cartwheels
and jump around
and then fall together to the ground
and hug for a real long time
and we'll both be so happy for the rest of our lives
